A trailer driver whose identity is yet to be identified has been killed in an accident at Ayetoro Bus-Stop, Ijanikin, along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos State.

Reports have it that  the driver was sleeping while driving on the expressway when the incident happened around 8am on Wednesday.
The trailer reportedly climbed a rock on the road, tumbled and fell on the driver.

A video clip of the incident showed the moment officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority tried to draw out the mangled remains of the driver underneath the trailer.

A motorcyclist in the area, Michael Dada, told us that the driver caused his death by dozing off while driving.

Dada said, “I and my colleagues were at Ayetoro Bus-Stop waiting for passengers when we saw the trailer heading towards us while veering off the road. We realised that the driver on the wheels had dozed off.

“We tried to call his attention by shouting at the top of our voices to wake him up, but it was too late as the trailer climbed a big stone by the roadside.

“The driver apparently woke up in the process and while trying to escape, the trailer tumbled on him.”

The Lagos State Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Olusegun Ogungbemide, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The incident, which involved an ash-coloured Howo truck with number plate, T8678LA, caused the death of the driver.

“The incident happened at 7.24am, but was reported at 7:28am; my team arrived at the scene at 7.32am. We immediately removed the trapped dead body of the driver and ensured free flow of traffic.”
