Following yesterday’s unfortunate incident which saw an unidentified young medical practitioner jump into the Lagos Lagoon. The deceased now identified as Dr. Orji, yesterday stopped his vehicle on the Third Mainland Bridge and jumped into the lagoon.
In what is best meant for scripts for the silver screen the doctor, who was returning from church was driven by his driver, before ordering him to park his Pathfinder Nissan Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) marked LND476EE on the bridge, before taking over the steering.
Dr Orji, drove a few metres before parking and jumping into the lagoon.
As at 7p.m., operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Marine Police Unit were still battling to rescue him.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, said proper investigation would be conducted on the incident by the appropriate authorities.
He said: “The agency received a distress call of a man who parked his grey coloured Nissan SUV with registration number LND 476 EE at about 4.50p.m. on Sunday, around Adekunle, inward Third Mainland Bridge and jumped into the Lagos lagoon.
“Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that the man said to be medical doctor, and named Orji who was said to be driven by his driver, suddenly ordered him (driver) to pull over, got down from the car and suddenly jumped into the water from the bridge.
“The vehicle and driver have been taken to Adeniji Adele Poice Station for further investigation, while effort is ongoing to recover his body from the lagoon.”
