Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 42 suspected members of the dreaded cult group, known as Babeli group that has been terrorising residents of the state for some times now.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kamal Abubakar, who stated this yesterday during a briefing at the Police Headquarters in Bauchi, said there were reported cases of extra-judicial killings of innocent civilians, most especially nomadic Fulani at Ganjuwa, Warji, Ningi and Darazo local government area of the state.
The PPRO said all the 42 suspects had been charged to court, out of which seven had been convicted while 35 others were awaiting trial.
In a related development, DSP Abubakar said the command on November 4, 2017, also arrested three suspected rapists who abducted a 20 years old Hauwa of Nupawa Ward in Bauchi at about 10 pm, while on her way back from work.
He said the suspects who were on a motorcycle, took the victim to an uncompleted building along old airport road, robbed her of her Gionee handset and her bag containing N8,000 and other valuable items and raped her repeatedly.
The PPRO, who gave the names of the suspects as Usman (gang leader), Mohammed and Adam said that the exhibits recovered from the suspects included two sharp cutlasses, two sharp knives and charms.
